Project Overview
This research project combines archaeology, cultural information science, and computer science and engineering.
Following the 2018 revision of the Law for the Protection of Cultural Properties (in effect from 2019), initiatives aimed at the comprehensive utilization of cultural heritage have placed greater emphasis on regional development surrounding historical cultural heritage and the use of cultural heritage for tourism. Similarly, following the establishment of the National Center for the Promotion of Cultural Properties in 2018, the utilization and lending of cultural heritage, in addition to preservation and the accumulation of information, is being actively pursued. Against this backdrop, the socialization of cultural property or cultural heritage as cultural resources is essential for their effective utilization in local society.
Within this research project, we aim to create promotional content utilizing ICT technology in order to foster a stronger connection between local society and its archaeological sites and history, using the Shikata site located within the Okayama University campus as a case study. We will consider the various effective uses of ICT technology and present the results of our research utilizing VR, AR, and MR.
Our research results will be publically released both within the university and in the local community through courses and on the internet.
